Namdeb Plans to Stop Production for 3 Months
Namdeb, the diamond mining joint venture of De Beers and the Namibian government, will halt diamond production for three months as demand for rough diamonds dwindle. Namdeb had no sales in January or February the company said. It is currently unclear when work will be stopped. |

Ignoring external criticism of its activities, the government of Zimbabwe said it will deepen its involvement in the country’s diamond mining. Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu said the government will fund machinery purchases to start commercial mining at Chiadzwa diamond fields in Manicaland, the state-owned daily The Herald reported.
