> Fifth U.S. Store for De Beers Diamond Jewellers
De Beers Diamond Jewellers has opened a fifth U.S. store in Tysons Galleria. The Washington DC-area store opened on November 23. It measures 2,082 square feet and its décor features open spaces, ebony walls, etched glass paneling and a VIP room for private presentations.

> Petra Consortium Gets Closer to Completion of Cullinan Acquisition
Petra Diamonds Ltd. announced that the old order mining right for the Cullinan Mine, which it is acquiring from De Beers, has been converted into a new order mining right by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (DME). This fulfills one of the conditions for the sale of Cullinan to the Petra Diamond Cullinan Consortium to be completed.

Jewelers are bracing for a tough holiday selling season. They have reined in inventory levels, and they have cut their sales forecasts from “cautiously optimistic” to merely “about even or up just a smidgeon from last year.” These conclusions are drawn from recent financial filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission, as well as from financial guidance provided to Wall Street securities analysts.
